It is the biggest festival of the year in Hong Kong. The Lunar New Year holiday is three days, and some folks may take more than two weeks. On New Year's Eve, everyone will go to the flower market to buy all kinds of flowers, souvenirs, and add new clothes to the home. At the beginning of the first day of the new year, there will be family gatherings and congratulatory gifts and red envelopes will be distributed. All kinds of large-scale performances and celebrations, such as parade parades, lion dance performances, fireworks in the night sky of Victoria Harbour, and horse races. Shatin Che Kung Temple, Wong Tai Sin Temple, there will be large-scale sacrifices and worship activities, praying for a better year. The Jiao Festival of Cheung Chau was officially inscribed onto the third national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2011. The programme of Bun Carnival is packed with a variety of interesting activities such as Training and Selection Contest for the Bun Scrambling Competition, the Bun Scrambling Competition and the Climbing Carnival. Activities include stall games, handicraft making, variety show, climbing demonstrations and fun day, as well as display of winning entries in the Colouring and Drawing Competitions for Students. The Climbing Carnival is an opportunity for the public to enjoy the fun of bun tower climbing. In addition to the individual event, an invitation relay will be organised for local groups in Cheung Chau.
